The ACB had conducted search at premises of IAS Meghraj Singh Ratnoo in a disproportionate asset case following complaints of corruption.
The initiation of this case is probably from an FIR lodged by Meghraj Singh Ratnoo's daughter Mahija Ratnoo against her husband and his family. It may be a coincidence but ACB got information about his disproportionate assets only after the FIR was lodged.
Mahija is an alumnus of IIM, Shillong while Samarth Singh is an alumnus of prestigious Scindia School and a law graduate from Delhi University. Mahija is currently pursuing PhD in management from Rawls College of Business in Texas, US.
Mahija in her FIR (copy of FIR is with The BuckStopper) has recorded that Meghraj Ratnoo had spent money beyond his capacity giving 2.5 kg gold, clothes worth Rs 20-22 lakh, 5 kg coins and other household items. The calculation of spending on her marriage goes beyond Rs 1.5 crore which ACB has also mentioned.
The marriage was lavish and functions were organised at Hotel Marriott and lawn of Entertainment Paradise along with expensive foreign liquors.
This admission of her daughter was a big proof of Ratnoo earning assets disproportionate to his 32 year service in administration.
Estranged marriage
On December12, 2018 Meghraj Singh Ratnoo's daughter Mahija got married to Samarth Singh, son Ashok Singh.
According to FIR, Samarth Singh and his family started torturing Mahija from day one of her marriage.
Mahija alleged in the FIR she was mentally tortured and Samarth family was demanding Rs 5 crore from Meghraj Ratnoo for developing a resort in Udaipur.
As per FIR, Samarth Singh's father Ashok Singh runs a seed business whose turnover is Rs 116 crore and he has a warehouse in Ahmedabad whose monthly rental is Rs 10 lakh.
Mahija alleged that her in laws have harassed her and threatened that they have relatives who are in strong positions in the government.
She said that her in-laws used to drop names of former IAS C D Arha and IPS Hinglajdan to put pressure on her.
The police is investing the case.
ACB conducted raids on tip off
Meanwhile, the ACB received multiple complaints against Meghraj Singh Ratnoo about corruption and his assets disproportionate to his income.
Taking action on complaints ACB found documents of 12 properties worth Rs 30 crore, cash Rs 6 lakh, gold and precious jewellery and suspicious diaries from search operation conducted at his home, office and residences of relatives.
According to ADG ACB, the intelligence wing of police had got input that Meghraj Ratnoo has accumulated wealth disproportionate to his income two months back – after her daughter had filed FIR against her husband and his family.
