EPF officer nabbed by ACB in graft case


The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has trapped an enforcement officer of Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Deepak Barjatya taking bribe from complainant. Following the trap the ACB is searching at his home and office. So far the agency has recovered ₹9 lakh cash from his premises. The ACB is searching at other locations also.

According to DIG of ACB Dr Ravi, the agency has caught Deepak Barjatya red handed taking a bribe of ₹1.5 lakh from his office at regional office in . The complainant, owner of a firm had registered a complaint with ACB stating that Barjatya had demanded a bribe of ₹2.50 lakh for preparing a favourable inspection report for years. The demand was ₹ one lakh per year. The complainant said that Barjatya has been troubling him for the bribe for quite some time. The ACB later took action after verifying the complaint. 

The action of trap was undertaken by deputy superintendent of Police Abhishek Pareek, who led his team to catch Deepak Barjatya rad handed. The amount of ₹1.50 lakh was divided into – ₹60,000 in real notes and ₹90,000 fake notes. After verifying the cash, the ACB team raided house of Barjatya located in Mansarovar where they seized cash of ₹9 lakh.

The ACB is now investigating the role of other officers of EPF office in this case. The ACB has been nabbing many officers of late. Recently, the agency had caught an IAS Prem Sukh Bishnoi, who has been promoted to IAS from service. He was serving as director fisheries department when he demanded money against a fishing tender. He was later suspended.
the state has strengthened the ACB department by bringing in one DG and two ADG level officers. While is working as DG ACB, Hemant Priyadarshy and Smita Srivastava are serving as two ADGs.
