ED may quiz officials including IAS Akhil Arora in DoIT gold-cash seizure case

(ED) is back in action in Rajasthan. Many senior IAS officers are under the radar of ED. It is investigating the high profile DoIT cash and gold case when , on May 19, 2023, had recovered ₹2.31 crore and Swiss made gold bar of one kg for government owned almirah in the basement of where the office of DoIT is located.

The ED, on the basis of case registered by Anti Corruption Bureau, had arrested joint director of DoIT and listed more than 35 senior officers including additional chief secretary Akhil Arora, who was  the chairman of state owned IT services company RajComp Info Services Limited, which releases IT tenders in behalf of the government.

Since senior officers were involved in the matter, ED had sought prosecutor sanction from the court before carrying out investigation against these officers.

The court is said to have given its nod to ED for further investigation.

“ED may summon senior officers after regarding this case. The agency was waiting for the nod from the court before stepping up the heat,” said a senior official of DoIT.

The ACB was also investigating the case. The then additional director general of ACB Hemant Priyadarshy had sought permission from Rajasthan government to question Akhil Arora in this case. Priyadarshy had written letter to department of personnel (DoP) on October 6,

ED may summon Arora, who suffered mild heart attack couple of days back

Additional chief secretary Akhil Arora, a 1993-batch IAS, had suffered a mild heart attack earlier this week, following which a stent has been implanted in one of his blood vessels. Currently, he is recuperating.

Arora is considered an upright efficient officer and people who know him doesn't approve of his any kind of involvement in DoIT

“I have been working with Arora Sir for last 10-12 years. He is an honest and upright officer. Just to expedite work, he may not follow few procedural steps in the interest of the work, but his integrity is beyond doubt. He has no role in the cash and gold seizure in Yojana Bhawan,” said a senior DoIT official.
