The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rescheduled date of voting in Rajasthan from November 23 to November 25, 2023.
Soon after the announcement of date, there have been demand to change the vote date as it was coinciding with Devutthani gyaras, which is the pious day for solemnising marriages.
There were around 45,000 marriages scheduled on that day, which could have interfered with the voting pattern.
“Representations have been received by the Commission from various political parties, social organisations and also issues raised in various media platforms for change of date of poll considering large scale wedding, social engagement on that day which may cause inconvenience to a large number of people, various logistics issues and may lead to reduced voter participation during the poll,” the Election Commission said in a statement.
