The Election Commission of India (ECI) has sent notice to Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Prime Minister Modi. Gandhi, in his election speeches has given remarks like ‘panauti', ‘jebkatra'. The ECI has found it objectionable in view of model code of conduct and sought explanation from Gandhi by November 25, 2023.
Reacting to the EC notice, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that the party will give reply to the notice.
“We will face whatever notices come to us,” He said.
These statements drew objection from Election Commission:
- In the election rally on November 21 at Baytu, Rahul Gandhi, while addressing the public had said, “When two pickpocket (jebkatre) pick pocket on any one, what do they do? They try to take away your attention. One comes to you and gets engaged in conversation with you. You r mind gets deflected and the other one comes and pick your pocket. Pickpocket at first deflects your mind. Modiji work is to deflect your mind first and then pick your pocket.
- In another rally, Rahul Gandhi said PM means ‘Panauti' Modi referring to the defeat of India in World Cup Cricket final against Australia when prime minister Narendra Modi had gone to watch and cheer up the cricket team.
