EC removes three observers, orders to register ‘recordable caution’ in service books

The Election has removed two general observers and one expenditure observer deployed for the Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram Assembly for alleged misconduct and violation of observers' code of ethics.

The officers removed are IAS officers Laltinkhuma Franklin and Udaya Narayan Das, and an officer Gaurav Awasthi, officials said.

In place of Laltinkhuma Franklin, a 2006 batch cadre, Anurag Patel, a 2010 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre has been deployed in Chhattisgarh's Dantewara assembly constituency as general observer.

Similarly, R Girish, a 2010 batch Karnataka cadre officer will replace Udaya Narayan Das, who is a 2010 batch cadre officer as general observer in Madhya Pradesh Seoni Malwa and Hoshangabad assembly constituencies.

IRS officer Gaurav Awasthi, an expenditure observer deployed in Lunglei district in Mizoram, has also been removed.

According to sources, the Election Commission has ordered to register ‘recordable caution' in their service books

Elections to the 40-member Mizoram assembly was held November 7.

The first-phase polling in 20 assembly constituencies in Chhattisgarh was held on November 7, while the second-phase polling in the remaining 70 seats will be held on November 17.
Elections to the 230-member Madhya Pradesh assembly will be held on November 17.
