Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Saran, who was serving in Sojat City of Pali district has been suspended for being accused of keeping gold worth Rs 1.5 crores under his possession.
The gold was confiscated from a jeweller who was allegedly possessing 1.66 kg gold without proper bill.
Saran confiscated the gold without informing seniors and putting it on record.
Along with Saran, two constables – Jitendra Singh and Ashok Meena– were also suspended.
Director General of Police UR Sahu suspended Saran on recommendation of Pali SP Chuna Ram Jat. Saran has been directed to report to Police headquarters during the suspension period.
What is the matter?
One Manish Sharma, a resident of Degana in Nagaur district, runs a jewellery business in Chennai. His uncle is also into jewellery business. Sharma is said to have brought 1.6 kg of gold to his friend's home at Sehwaz village of Sojat City.
DSP Saran received a tip-off of this and summoned the jeweller seeking bill for the gold The information was given by DSP Sojat City Anil Saran. He called the jeweller he (Sharma) was possessing.
When Sharma failed to produce the bill, Saran took gold and kept it under his possession without reporting to senior officers and without putting the action on record. Even the affected party – jeweller – didn't inform the higher ups in police out of fear.
However, SP Chuna Ram Jat came to know about the incident through informers and set up an investigation. On probe, it was found that DSP Anil Saran played foul and possessed the seized gold illegally.
Jat wrote a letter to the Director General of Police UR Sahu recommending suspension of Saran.
Who is Anil Saran?
Anil Saran (33) is a resident of Karavari village in Sanchaur, Rajasthan. In 2016, he secured 74th rank in Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS).
On completion of probation period, Anil Saran got his first posting as Pali CO City. After that, he was posted as CO Kapasan in Chittorgarh district. It was his third posting as CO Sojat City in Pali district.
