A division bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court has stayed single judge orders sentencing two IAS officers to imprisonment in a contempt case The stay is for three weeks.
According to reports, a single bench had earlier ordered a one month jail term and a fine of Rs 1,000 each for higher education principal secretary Jamjam Syamala Rao and commissioner of collegiate education Pola Bhaskar in a contempt case. The two IAS officers appealed against the single bench order and got the stay.
The case
The matter is related to a case filed by petitioner seeking intervention of court for filling up of vacant aided posts in the education department with unaided lecturers.
The court issued orders in favour of petitioners and directed state give rent to fill up the posts on July 26, 2022.
However, despite the directions from court, the education department failed to fill ion th r post. Following which petitioners filed contempt petition with single bench in High Court, which sentenced the IAS officers for a one month imprisonment and had also asked them to surrender before the Registrar (Judicial) by December 8, 2023
