Four times Gallantry awardee encounter specialist IPS Daljit Singh Chaudhary has been appointed as director general of Sashastra Seema Bal

Daljit Singh Chaudhary, a 1990-batch (IPS) officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the director general of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

He will replace Rashmi Shukla, who was repatriated or her home cadre and was appointed as director general of Maharshtra Police.

Daljit Singh Chaudhary is currently serving as Special Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Earlier, he had served as general in Indo Tibetan Border Police (). He perfectly suits the post as he has experience of serving in para military as well police force in leadership capacity.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment as the DG, SSB for a period up to November 30, 2025 i.e. the date of his superannuation, the order said.

The SSB guards India's frontiers with Nepal and Bhutan. The force was originally set up under the name Special Service Bureau in 1963 in the aftermath of the Sino-Indian war to strengthen India's border areas against enemy operations.

SSB is the first border guarding force that has decided to recruit women battalions. It is doing excellent job as Border Guarding Force on Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan Border.

Daljit Singh is Gallantry award winner

According to reports Daljit Singh Chaudhary is among few para qualified police officers and has been awarded with Police Medal for gallantry four times. Probably Daljit Singh Chaudhary is the third IPS officer after Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Vijay Bhushan to get the honour.

While in his home cadre Uttar Pradesh, he is known as encounter specialist and has gunned down many dreaded gangsters. He holds a record of gunning down 32 gangsters in just one and half years, when he held the post of SSP Etawah (bordering MP) when he used to lead SOG teams into the riverines to hunt down dacoits.
