, a 1994-batch IPS officer, posted as additional director general CRPF in the northeast zone, has been repatriated to his parent Uttar Pradesh cadre following complaints of sexual harassment by a woman employee of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati (LGBIA).

The woman alleged that the officer had made objectionable remarks and forcibly tried to hug her. Airport Officer of LGBIA Utpal Baruah had registered a written complaint with the dated March 18.

Diganta Baruah,  police commissioner, wrote to director general of police saying that the preliminary inquiry report “… opined that prima facie a case of outraging the modesty of a woman is made out as per versions of the woman employee as well as other employees of the LGBI airport.”

The woman, however, withdrew the complaint after Binod Kumar Singh offered his apology over a WhatsApp call. The police had registered the case and enquiry was then halted in between after the complaint was withdrawn.

What is the complaint against Binod Kumar Singh?

According to sources, Binod Kumar Singh had requested the airport for a reserved lounge facility on March 17. There a woman employee in the lounge received him. The woman later complained that the officer had forcibly tried to hug her despite her protests.

In her complaint, she alleged that Binod Kumar Singh kept gazing at her and she felt uncomfortable.

“He kept praising about my smile, my teeth, my lips that they were beautiful, about my lips. He insisted on giving me his mobile number to stay in touch. He then showed his intentions to give me a hug, to which I apologised. Despite my ‘No', he entered the desk area, held my arms, pulled me towards him and tried to hug forcefully. I had to pull myself away from him and asked him to immediately stop his in acceptable behaviour…” the complaint said.
