Consumer is King, Rajasthan govt ensures no violation in rights

Food, civil supplies and consumer affairs principal secretary Bhaskar Sawant has launched a special drive during festive season to curb immoral practices. The department has launched a helpline number for consumers to report on any violation of consumer rights

Next time if your neighbourhood mithaiwala includes weight of the box also in your order of one kg Gulabjamun, you just have to dial 18001803060 and within three hours, your will get the redressal of your complaint and your mithaiwala will be penalised. 

Food, civil supply and principal Bhaskar Sawant said that has zero tolerance policy for any consumer rights violation. 

“We have launched a special 10-day drive for the festive season with Rakshabandhan festival till Janmashtami. There is a dedicated helpline number – 18001803060. Any complaint regarding adulteration, lesser weight, expiry date or any other consumer related problem will be redressed within three hours. If you are buying one kg of sweet and the box weights 80 gms, then the mithaiwala will have to give you 1080 gm along with the box without any extra money,” he said. 

Sawant said that consumers should know their rights and it's a sin if anyone violates it.

“Consumer Rights are protected under Consumer Protection Act -2019. We are creating awareness about consumer rights so that they don't get duped. Consumer laws have become stringent and there is heavy penal provisions on their violation,” he said. 

Sawant said that Bhajan Lal is sensitive towards ensuring protection of consumer laws. The department will keep on launching special drives to curb the intent of those establishments which cheat consumers and don't provide services they promise. 

“We request consumers to be more active and vigilant towards their rights. They must check the product thoroughly, enquire about make, ingredients, expiry date and other relevant information. If there is any discrepancy in the actual delivery and what claim of the company, they should immediately register complaint,” he said.

Sawant said that there has been a surge in adulteration in sweets and other food items. Consumptions of these food items Amy cause serious damages to health.

”If you are vigilant and raise voice against these criminal adulteration, we are there to help you and catch the culprits. They will be penalised heavily under various provisions of law,” he said.
