Congress MLA Gurmeet Singh Kooner dies, election now on 199 seats

The ' and sitting MLA from Rajasthan's Sri constituency, Gurmeet Singh Kooner, during treatment at the AIIMS-Delhi on November 15.

Now the election, due on November 25, will be held on 199 seats in 200-seat assembly.

He was 75. Kooner was admitted to the Geriatric Medicine Ward of the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on November 12.
Kooner died of sepsis with septic shock and renal disease, according to the death certificate issued by the hospital. He was also suffering from hypertension.

This is for the third time in a row that elections are being held on 199 seats. In 2013, election on Churu seat was held later as its BSP candidate JP Meghwal had died. Similarly in 2018, again a BSP candidate from Ramgarh died before the scheduled elections resulting in postponing of the election.
Kooner was demanding ticket for his son

Two time MLA Kooner wanted his son Roopendra Singh Kooner to contest in his place. But the party as a policy didn't give ticket to sons of any leader. He was asked to contest the election. He was heavy diabetic and was suffering from kidney ailment.
