Chandrashekhar, BJP organisational general secretary from Rajasthan has been removed exactly a week after the poll results of Karanpur where BJP minister Surendra Pal Singh TT lost election to Congress' Rupinder Singh Kunnar.
He had been on the post for six years in Rajasthan. Now he has been moved to Telangana.
According to media reports, Chandrashekhar voluntarily asked party to give him new and challenging assignment. However, sources in the party said that the central high command was not happy the way election was fought in Karanpur. The party had done an unprecedented experiment of appointing minister even before the candidate being elected. But the ploy egged on the face of party.
Chandrashekhar was to be removed along with Satish Poonia
When Satish Poonia was removed for the post of state party chief in March last year, it was proposed to move Chandrashekhar also from the post of organisational general secretary. There have been reports from within the party about dissatisfaction over the conduct of Chandrashekhar. But the party then decided to go to polls with Chandrashekhar and the new state chief C P Joshi.
But the debacle in Karanapur assembly segment became the immediate cause of his fall.
According to party sources, the state president C P Joshi, in a meeting with state core committee a couple of days back, had raised concerns over organisational gaps. He reportedly said that if the party wants to win all 25 seats, it will have to revamp its organisation.
“Winning just 115 seats in positive environment is just a proof of serious gaps in organisation,” he had reportedly said.
Challenging task ahead
Chandrashekhar has a challenging task ahead in Telangana. BJP in assembly elections last year had won 8 seats with an upward poll swing to 13.9% from last election's poll percentage of 6.98%.
BJP, which is eyeing more than 400 seats in Lok Sabha, would be looking at seats in double digit. in last elections, BJP had won four out of 17 seats.
