Centre reduces petrol-diesel price by ₹2 a litre

Ahead of Lok Sabha elections and just before the enforcement of code of conduct, the central government has reduced petrol- prices by ₹2 a litre. The new prices will become effective from 15 March at 6 am, said the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

This decision has doubled the happiness of consumers in Rajasthan where the state government has reduced the petrol prices by ₹5.3 a litre and cut diesel prices by ₹4.85 a litre. The state government has also ensured uniform prices across Rajasthan through differential reduction in petrol-diesel prices. However, the consumers in Rajasthan will enjoy the double benefit of price cut in diesel and petrol.

The Petroleum Ministry said the reduction in petrol-diesel prices will boost consumer spending. It will also reduce operating costs for over 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles running on diesel, 6 crore cars and 27 crore two-wheelers, said the ministry.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri hailed Prime Minister Narendra for the reduction in the prices of petrol and diesel and said the fuel rates in are much less compared to other countries.

He compared the fuel prices in India to the rates in Italy, France, Germany and Spain, where the amounts were 50 to 79 per cent more.

This was a long pending demand from consumers after dip in regular dip in crude oil prices.
