CBI files chargesheet against Bhupinder Hooda’s ex-principal secy Tayal

The Central Bureau of Investigation has tightened noose around Murari Lal Tayal former principal secretary of ex-ex-Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.

The central agency has filed chargesheet against the retired 1976-batch Indian Administrative Service () officer, who has been accused of accumulating assets amounting to Rs 14 crore, which are a staggering 81.11% greater than his legal income sources during his tenure from 2006 to 2014. The case is now listed for April 22, 2024.

The CBI has also dragged Tayal's family into the scandal as well. His wife, Savita, and his son, Kartik, have also been implicated in the case. The chargesheet claims that they were involved in the acquisition of the disproportionate assets. The case is linked to the infamous Manesar land scam, where public servants allegedly acquired land through corrupt and illegal means.

The agency filed its report after more than six years of probe against Tayal during 2005-2009. The case has come in when Haryana will go for assembly polls in later this year after the elections. Since this involves former principal secretary to Bhupinder Hooda, it will have political ramifications also. The BJP is likely to attack on Hooda over the charges on his close associate.

The CBI had registered an FIR against Tayal, his Savita Tayal and other family members in 2017 for allegedly amassing disproportionate assets. The FIR was based on the findings of the agency in Manesar land scam case in which Tayal was also under scanner.

After retirement in 2009, Tayal was in the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for years while his wife Savita, who retired as the principal of a government college in 2012, was appointed as a member of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). She retired from the HPSC in 2016.
