BP Gopalika becomes chief secretary of West Bengal

BP Gopalika has been as the chief secretary of West Bengal. The outgoing chief secretary HK Dwivedi has been appointed as the chief adviser (finance) to Mamata Banerjee for three years. Dwivedi's extended term ended on December 31, 2023.

BP Gopalika, a 1989-batch IAS officer, would be holding the post for only five months as he is scheduled to retire on May 31 next year.

Gopalika had earlier worked in the transport, animal resources development, and personnel and administrative reforms departments as secretary.

Nandini Chakraborty, former to Governor CV Ananda Bose, has replaced Gopalika as home secretary. She was serving as tourism secretary.

Nandini Chakraborty is the second woman after Lina Chakraborty to hold the post.

Lina Chakraborty was the home secretary from November 26, 1996 to September 7, 1998 during the previous Left Front government.
