BJP wins three, INDIA bloc captures four in bypolls

0

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three out of seven assembly seats across six states that went to bypoll this week. Out of the remaining four seats Trinmool (TMC), (SP), Congress and JMM won one seat each

The bypoll results are seen as a test for the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA ahead of the five state assembly elections scheduled later this year and the crucial Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

In the byelection, BJP lost one existing seat Dhooguri in West Bengal while wrested Boxanagar seat in Tripura from CPI (M) to even out the equation. The party repeated its victory on Dhanpur in Tripura and Bageshwar in Uttrakhand.

The SP repeated victory in Ghosi seat while Congress candidate Chandy Oommen retained Puthupally seat which fell vacant after of his father former chief minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy.

Similarly, JMM's Bebi Devi retains Dumri seat left vacant by her husband upon his untimely death while TMC dislodged BJP to win Dhupguri seat.

“The results of these bypolls don't reflect the mood of the nation. None of states where bypolls were held is going for elections this year. Every state has specific issues. So one should not derive any conclusion from these results,” said Ramesh Singh, a analyst.
