Prem Chand Bairwa is the new dalit face of BJP in Rajasthan. He has become the deputy chief minister along with Diya Kumari, who comes from Rajput community. Bhajan Lal Sharma, a Brahmin, has been made the chief minister of Rajasthan.
Bairwa, a two time MLA from Dudu, a new district carved out of Jaipur, defeated senior Congress leader Babu Lal Nagar on the assembly election. This is his second win the election. In 2013 also he won the election by defeating Hazari Lal Nagar brother of Babu Lal Nagar. However, in 2018 elections, Bairwa lost to Babu Lal Nagar, who contested as independent but later joined Congress.
A doctorate from Rajasthan University, Bairwa has been an organisation man. He has deep roots in RSS and BJP organisation. At the age of 49, Bairwa has a long way to go. He is co incharge of BJP's SC cell and president of Bairwa Mahasabha. He is believed to be from Vasundhara Raje camp.
His appointment will help BJP stitch social engineering together. Bairwa belongs to scheduled caste which has around 21% population in the state. Earlier, Banwari Lal Bairwa, from his community, had served as deputy chief minister in Ashok Gehlot government from January 25, 2003 to December 8, 2003.
Among chief ministers in Rajsthan, Jagannath Pahadia is the only CM from dalit community.
“Prem Chand Bairwa is an educated politician with a deep ground knowledge. He will work towards the elevation of dalits in the state,” said a senior BJP leader.
