BJP bets on Chhattisgarhi movie star Padmshree Anuj Sharma from Dharsiwa

Akshay Kumar of film industry Anuj Sharma will contest election from Dharsiwa assembly seat on BJP ticket. Padmshree awardee Sharma is one of the most popular actor in Chhatisgarh film industry and has done more than 40 films. His popularity in Chhattisgarh can be gauged by the fact that so far only four Chhattisgarhi movies have celebrated silver jubilee and Anuj was lead actor in all the four movies.

A role model among youth, Anuj Sharma is multi talented artist. Apart from acting, he is avery good singer and trained in music. His film ‘More More Chhaiyan Bhuiyan' is a cult movies and has a record of running for 27 weeks, five shows in a day .

How Anuj gets into films

Anuj Sharma belongs to a middle class family from Bhatapara in Chhattisgarh. After graduation,

Anuj came to Raipur for doing post graduation in History. Post education he did sundry jobs to support his family. He used to do surveys for newspapers an works a a salesman in a showroom.

There he met Chhattisgarhi film director Satish Jain, who introduced him in film industry. And then Anuj kept on delivering hit after hit and became a popular face.

Why did he join BJP

Anuj said that BJP is a nationalist party and he believes in nationalism. BJP stage incharge and senior leader Om Prakash joined him the party in June this year.

“For me BJP is the only party which suits my sentimental. Artists and actors are emotional. They need platform to showcase their emotions. BJP is the platform where I can show nationalism and work towards nation building,” Sharma said.
He said that he wanted to serve the nation by joining army. He had been an NCC cadet but somehow could not get selected for army.

“I will now serve the nation through politics. I have entertained my people, brought smile and happiness on their faces. Now I will try to bring prosperity and progress in their lives,” he told The BuckStopper.

Prospects of winning

The ruling Congress party has not declared so far from this assembly segment. In last , Anita Yogendra Sharma from Congress had won this seat from two time MLA Devji Bhai Patel, who had won this seat in 2008 and 2013 on BJP ticket.

“Out of four elections so far after Chhattisgarh came into being, three were won by BJP and Congress could win once. It is a part of Raipur parliamentary constituency and prospects of Anuj Sharma looks good,” said Surendra Sahu, a political commentator.

He said that Sharma will have to handle the infighting as the locals are calling him an outsiders.
“There is little against his candidature as he is considered an outsider. But the organisation of BJP is strong here and riding on his popularity Sharma may sail through,” he said.
