In a case of cyber crime, a person impersonating as Bharatpur collector Amit Yadav has called up and sent messages to officers and people on WhatsApp. He has also created a fake identity of Yadav on social media.
Bharatpur Collector Amit Yadav has filed a complaint with cyber cell about this.
Amit Yadav told The Buckstopper that someone has put an old photograph as profile picture on WhatsApp and had sent messages to officers. He had asked about their well being and location using that WhatsApp number.
“Many officers called me up to apprise about his. I have redirected a complaint with cyber cell. I have also written a complaint letter to WhatsApp so that they can take action against that number which is probably from Sri Lanka,” he said.
Police is investigating the case. So far there is information about any financial fraud.
In past there have been many cases across the country where people impersonating higher officials have duped money from their known.
”This has come to the knowledge at right time. The Bharatpur Collector took appropriate action to control the situation. We expect cooperation from WhatsApp to crack this case,” said a senior police officer.
The BuckStopper, run by a group of seasoned journalists, holds the powerful accountable. The buck stops with them, as they cannot shrug off their official responsibilities.
