Parampal Kaur Sidhu, who is a 2011 batch IAS appointed through nomination, had  had sought voluntary retirement from service a week ago but her application is yet to be approved by the Chief Minister , who is in charge of the personnel department.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann on X “Parampal Kaur's resignation as an IAS officer hasn't yet not accepted by Punjab government. She was so eager to become an IAS earlier. However , there is a way to leave.. Please understand the ways to resign.. Otherwise the earning of the whole life will go waste.”

Parampal Kaur Sidhu, who was due to retire in October this year, has officially joined the BJP along with her husband Gurpreet Singh Maluka, son of senior Akali Dal leader Sikander Singh Maluka.

Parampal Kaur Sidhu is the daughter-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sikandar Singh Malika and is likely to contest elections on BJP ticket. 

There is speculation that she may get contest from Bathinda parliamentary seat, currently represented by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Punjab goes for poll on June 1. 

After joining BJP, Parampal Kaur Sidhu said that the future of the country is in BJP.

“We have seen the policies of BJP and impressed by  them, me and my husband has decided to join BJP. No other party has future in Punjab,” she said. 

Who is Parampal Kaur Sidhu?

Parampal Kaur Sidhu, who is posted as managing of Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation, has been on leave for quite some time. She is due to retire in October this year. 

Sidhu is post graduate in philosophy and zoology and is the first woman block development panchayat officer (BDPO) in Punjab in the early 1990s. Her nomination into IAS cadre as a non state civil service officer, had been controversial and people say that her elevation to IAS had happened by virtue of her being the daughter-in-law of Sikander Singh Maluka, who was then rural development minister.
