Barmer collector Nishant Jain left the general body meeting of district council in between after an argument with district chief Mahendra Choudhary, who was chairing the meeting.
Choudhary entered into a verbal duel with collector Nishant Jain when he (Jain) asked Choudhary to let nodal officer Ramniwas answer to queries related to water conservation programme in Barmer district. But when Choudhary refused relent, collector Nishant Jain left the meeting after 10 minutes.
What was the incident?
There was a presentation being given regarding Jal Swavlamban programme in the district. A public representative Narpat Raj Moodh asked question about the initiatives taken for water conservation.
The district nodal officer for this programme Ramniwas replied to his queries explaining through power point presentation. But Moodh was not convinced and said that Ramniwas was misleading the gathering.
Siddharth Palanichamy, ceo, zila parishad, who is a 2020 batch IAS officer, tried to intervene and asked to skip the point of dispute and discuss next point.
District chief Mahendra Choudhary jumped into the conversations and insisted that discussion will progress only after getting proper reply to the issue related to water conservation.
Looking at the deadlock, Barmer Collector Nishant Jain asked Choudhary to let Ramniwas put across his points for the explanation.
“You are presiding over the meeting. Let him (Ramniwas) speak,” Jain said.
Mahendra Choudhary got upset with this and said, “Had I done anything wrong if I have presided over this meeting.” Nishant Jain, after 10 minutes, left the meeting.
