Assam CEO Anurag Goel faces allegations of sexual exploitation

Anurag Goel, who is serving as electoral officer () of Assam is facing a serious allegation of sexual exploitation.

The of Assam Dr Ravi Kola has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter following a complaint filed by activist and film producer Luit Kr Barman.

The complaint alleges that Goel exploited a former National Health Mission (NHM) employee for several years under the false promise of marriage.

The chief has handed over investigation to IAS officer Aruna Rajoria, who has already recorded a statement from the victim. 

According to the complaint, Goel sexually exploited the woman, a widow, for three years, on the pretext that he will marry her after some time. 

As per the complaint, when Goel's wife discovered their relationship, he (Goel) abruptly cut off all contact with the victim, blocking her on social media and preventing her from meeting him. 

The woman alleged that the IAS officer Goel also forced her to resign from her job.

Barman's complaint is based on sensitive photographs and conversations between the victim and Goel. He has also alleged that the victim previously approached the then State Health , Keshav Mahanta, but no action was taken.

Barman has urged the Chief Secretary to intervene within seven days to prevent further damage to the reputation of the administrative fraternity. 

A native of Punjab, Anurag Goel is a 1996 batch IAS officer, who took charge as the State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam in July last year. He has served at various positions including principal secretary tribal development, health and family welfare and finance among other departments.
