Alok, a 1993 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre, has been repatriated to Rajasthan from centre. He was serving as additional secretary in National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) under ministry of home affairs.

A native of Bihar, Alok had gone on deputation to centre in January 2020 and after completing three years stint he is now back to his parent cadre. Considered as a hard task master, Alok is known for fast implementation and tight monitoring.

On central deputation, he worked as member (administration) in National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) before becoming additional secretary in NDMA.

He had been on deputation to centre on two occasions. And in both the occasions Congress was ruling the state. His first tenure in centre was from April 2010 to January 2014 when he was director in union power ministry followed by director general (technical) in bureau of efficiency.

A graduate in mechanical engineering, Alok had been collector of five districts including Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur, and Bundi. He has also held important positions in BJP government in state including principal secretary revenue, pwd, , secretary energy and managing director .

What sudden repatriation of Alok means?

Alok is a seasoned bureaucrat with good track record. If he has been sent back to Rajasthan by the central government, he is due  to get a plum posting. There are two-three important departments being handled as an additional charge. He will be posted as additional chief secretary. Currently postings like chief minister office, medical education; rural development, panchayatiraj and Indira Gandhi canal are being handled as an additional charge by and principal secretary rank officers. There are a couple of senior IAS officers of ACS level who have not been touched in the recent transfer list. Alok may get one of the coveted post.
The government may handover some other key department also by bringing in a reshuffle. His varied experience of working at centre as well as in state will come handy for the Bhajan Lal Sharma government, which needs seasoned officers to get results before the Lok Sabha elections.
