Vasudev Devnani is the first Sindhi to become speaker in Rajasthan assembly. He has been representing Ajmer North, which is dominated by Sindhi population, for the fifth time. He had been minister in Vasundhara Raje on both occasions – 2003 and 2013.

An ardent worker of RSS, Vasudev Devnani has deep roots in the organisation. He joined the RSS at a young age and later its student wing ABVP. He served as the Rajasthan state president of ABVP for nine years. Subsequently, he joined the BJP.

Pushed Hindutva agenda in Education curriculum

As education minister Devnani courted controversy on many occasions by pushing Hindutva agenda. He introduced compulsory Saraswati puja and in government schools which had invited opposition from the schools run by the Arya Samaj, and Christian missionaries.[

Later in April 2015, Devnani again hit the controversy by announcing to eliminate chapters in Akbar form Rajasthan Board curriculum and also remove chapters on Isaac Newton and Pythagoras. His logic was:

Why Akbar The Greater why not Maharana Pratap, the Great?”. “Our are constantly learning about foreign rulers, mathematicians, scientists et al.” These “foreign” scientists and intellectuals are being eliminated in favour of “local and national” heroes, Veer Savarkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Maharaja Suraj Mal, Aryabhatt and Bhaskaracharya.
