N Priya Ravichandran has become the first fire and rescue service officer to be elevated to IAS in Tamil Nadu.
She has been appointed under the non-state civil service of Tamil Nadu. Currently she was serving as joint director (Northern Region).
N Priya Ravichandran started her career in 2003 through Group-1 service recruitment. She rose to fame when during a rescue operation at Kalas Mahal, an age-old heritage structure, where she sustained severe burns in a fire outbreak on January 15, 2012 while serving as the District Fire Officer (Chennai City Central). She sustained 45% burns while rescuing people.

She was given the President's Award for Gallantry, the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the Anna Medal for Bravery.
An alumnus of Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai and Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Ravichandran completed her graduation in Corporate Secretaryship and post-graduation, and M. Phil in Sociology. She led the team for the Republic Day parade contingents in Chennai for two consecutive years – 2008 and 2009. She is actively engaged in initiatives to promote fire safety, including creation of educational films about the fire department and awareness campaigns such as ‘Safe Deepavali'.
