Former IPS and ex CBI joint director VV Lakshmi Narayana has floated a new political party – Jai Bharat National Party – to fight for the special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
He said that the party will bring the issue of special category status to the mainstream which other parties like YSRCP, TDP and Jana Sena have sidelined.
Lakshmi Narayana is not the only former IPS who has launched a political party to fight for a cause. In Uttar Pradesh two former IPS officers – Sulkhan Singh and Amitabh Thakur have launched political parties of their own. In Gujarat also, the controversial cop D G Vanazara launched a political outfit – Praja Vijay Paksh.
The latest IPS entrant in launching political party – Lakshmi Narayana said that special category status to Andhra Pradesh was promised in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 and said all parties failed to achieve this despite making tall claims.
He said the state lost three opportunities to demand the Centre to accord special category status.
“when politics is considered as betraying people, Jai Bharat Party has born to show that politics means bringing good governance,” he said.
Lakshmi Narayana has contested elections earlier
It's not that Lakshmi Narayana is taking plunge in politics for the first time.
He had joined the Jana Sena party of actor politician Pawan Kalyan just before the 2019 elections. He had unsuccessfully contested the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat on Jana Sena ticket. In 2020, he quit the Jana Sena citing Pawan Kalyan's decision to return to films as the reason for his exit.

Who is former IPS Lakshmi Narayana?
Lakshmi Narayana, popularly known as JD in Andhra Pradesh, is a 1990 batch IPS officer. He took voluntary retirement in 2018 when he was serving as the additional director general of Police (Planning and Coordination) in Maharashtra. While serving as the Joint Director of the CBI, he had investigated the disproportionate assets charges made against YSRCP President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and arrested him. He has also been credited to have investigated famous OMC scandal, Emmar Properties and Satyam scandal.
