Income Tax department, today, conducted raids at offices and associates of mining company N G infrastructure Limited. It also conducted raids at residence of Nilesh Gadhiya, promoter of the company and 17 different locations in Jaipur and other places including Kuchaman and Ajmer.
The group has contract of state-wide gravel mining at Banas river side. It has also business interest in Phosphate mining. The I-T department had received complaints of irregularities in the gravel mining business.
Does I-T raids on Gadhiya group and ED raids on senior IAS Subodh Agarwal have any link?
Call it a coincidence, both the central agency conducted raids simultaneously. The Enforcement Directorate conducted raid at office and residence of additional chief secretary Subodh Agarwal and other officials over irregularities found in Jal Jeevan Mission. I-T raid was related to irregularities in gravel contracts of Gadhiya group.
But there is one common link – Subodh Agarwal was heading the mining department till May 2023. He was divested of this portfolio following complaints of large scale corruption in mining department, especially in gravel mining for which I-T has raided.
What is the complaint?
As per the complaint, the company is charging Rs 750 per tonne from consumers against a payment of Rs 100 per tonne to government. The name of the group came lime light when it supplied gravel to the prestigious project of Constitutional Club.
“There was no relaxation in rates even after Supreme Court lifted ban on gravel mining. The companies continued to make hay in connivance with mining department officials,” said an I-T department official.
The I-T department may investigate the matter with officials of mining departments.
