Contrary to the rumours doing round that former IAS Antar Singh Nehra would join Congress, the former bureaucrat has joined BJP taking everyone by surprise.
Nehra, a 2009 batch IAS officer had taken voluntary retirement in September 30, 2023, four months before his scheduled retirement on January 31, 2024.
His last posting was divisional commissioner Jaipur. He had also served as Jaipur collector during this government.
Nehra, was considered close to chief minister Ashok Gehlot and it was rumoured that he would contest assembly election on Congress ticket.
“But joining BJP for a Gehlot confidante is a big shock for Congress party. He always had good postings in Gehlot government. A popular face among Jats, Nehra will be instrumental in attracting Jat votes for BJP,” said a senior officer who had worked with Nehra.
Apart from Nehra, nine more leaders from Congress and RLP have joined BJP. Among them Suresh Mishra, who was vying to contest from Sanganer on Congress ticket joined BJP after being denied the ticket. He had lost election from Sanganer once from Congress. Other leaders from Congress include former pradhan of Maulasar panchayat Jhalaram Bhakar, Dr Suman Chawla and Bhagwana Ram Burdak.
Among those who joined from RLP included Seema Choudhary, Geeta Devi, Rewatram Daga, Mahipal Mehla and Jagdeesh Beediyasar.
