Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association called off their strike after discussion with the state government, which has asked for 10 days to study demands of petrol pump operators. The government has formed a committee for this.
The petrol pump operators had called for indefinite strike from today morning and have closed down petrol pumps across the state demanding reduction in VAT in line with neighbouring states.
“Rajasthan levies highest VAT which makes diesel and petrol costlier in the state as compared to other states. This is hampering our business as petrol pumps of districts bordering states have been forced to close down,” said a senior association official.
Petrol pump dealers were on symbolic strike on 13-14 September closing down sales between 10 am to 6 pm. However, looking at the state government's cold response to their demands, Rajasthan Petroleum Dealers Association had decided to go on indefinite strike.
Rajasthan has the highest petrol diesel prices in the country. The most expensive fuel is being sold in Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. For one litre of petrol, one has to shell out Rs 112.74 while diesel is priced at Rs 97.57 a litre.
