Rajasthan forest dept organises Van Mahotsav

The Rajasthan forest department organised the 74th level Van Mahotsava in Bassi, Jaipur today. The objective of the programme was to create awareness about plantation among public and encourage them to plant trees. The forest department took a pledge to plant five crore trees covering 80,000 hectares of land under the Rajasthan government's ‘Tree Outside Forest Area' programme. The programme will help in increasing vegetation cover in the state.
Rajasthan chief Ashok Gehlot expressed his pleasure over forest department's initiative for organising such a massive campaign. In a message shared by the department, Gehlot said that forest and trees are important for existence of life and world.

“We can fight against challenge of global warming and climate change through extensive afforestation. Campaigns like Van Mahotsava are great way to create awareness about such important initiatives,” chief minister said in a message.
As per forest survey of – State of Forest report 2021 (ISFR 2021), Rajasthan has Recorded Forest Area (RFA) of about 32,863 square kms. This forest area forms 9.60% of state's geographical area and about 4.23% of India's forest area.
