Mugdha Sinha, a 1999-batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre has been appointed as managing director of India Tourism Development Corporation Limited (ITDC) in the rank and pay of additional secretary.
She was serving as director general tourism in the ministry of tourism. That was also an additional secretary rank post. Sinha was empanelled as additional secretary in the month of May last year.
She had also worked as joint secretary in the ministry of culture in October 2022.
“Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who is union minister of culture and tourism, also comes from Rajasthan. Sinha has good working relations with Shekhawat. She was earlier in the ministry of culture, which is also with Shekhawat,” said a senior official.
From Rajasthan cadre, Lalit K Panwar, a 1979 batch IAS officer, who retired as secretary tourism from centre, had also served as managing director ITDC. He was also CMD ITDC for sometime.
What is ITDC?
ITDC is a Public Sector Undertaking under administrative control of the Ministry of Tourism. Incorporated on October 1, 1966, ITDC has played a key role in the development of tourism infrastructure in the country. The Authorized Capital of the Corporation is Rs 150 crores and the Paid Up Capital as on 31.03.2025 is Rs 85.77 crores with Government of India having 87.03% stake.
Presently, ITDC has a network of 3 Ashok Group of Hotels, 1 Joint Venture Hotel, 1 Restaurant, 5 ATT Units, 14 Duty Free Shops at Sea ports. Besides, ITDC is also managing catering services at Western Court, Vigyan Bhawan, Hyderabad House and Parliament House.
ITDC besides consolidating its business area, diversified into new service-oriented business activities like consultancy and execution of tourism and engineering projects, training/education in the tourism and hospitality sectors, event management and mounting of Sound and Light Shows.
