The makers of the world-famous artificial limb Jaipur Foot, Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS), which is celebrating its golden jubilee this year, has rehabilitated 1,49,231 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) by providing them artificial limbs, calipers, wheelchairs, hand-paddled tricycles, crutches and hearing aids etc.
The founder and the chief patron of the BMVSS D R Mehta said that the BMVSS could fabricate and fit 43,722 artificial limbs in 2024-25.
He said no other organisation in the world can fit even 4,000 limbs in a year. He said the BMVSS has been able to achieve this number through the various 34 centres of the BMVSS in the country.
According to Mehta, in fiscal 2023-24, the total number of PwDs rehabilitated was 1,09,562. The organisation has surpassed the target fixed by the Management Committee of BMVSS in 2024-25. Again the target of was 1.25 lakh, BMVSS could reach the tally of 1,49,231.
“This work has been possible because of the dedication and hard work of our technical staff, office staff, management team etc. The role of the branches is also very significant” said D R Mehta.
Jaipur Foot has its presence in 44 countries and has rehabilitated over 47,000 of disabled in these countries. This has enabled India earn tremendous goodwill.
