IRTS Jayant Singh appointed as chairman of Land Ports Authority of India

Jayant Singh, a 1993 batch Indian Railway Traffic Service () officer, serving as member in Niti Ayog, has been appointed as the of Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a government owned body, which build land ports on borders to provide secure, seamless and efficient systems for cargo and passenger movement. 

There are currently eleven land ports operational at Attari, Agartala, Dawki, Petrapole, Raxaul, Rupaidiha, Jogbani, Moreh, Sutarkandi, Srimantapur and PTB at Dera Baba Nanak. 

In 2023-24, Land Ports in India facilitated trade (import and export) worth Rs.70,952 crore till March 2024.

The appointment of Jayant Singh as chairman LPAI is for five years from the date of joining.

An alumnus if St Stephens, Singh in his previous appointments has served as vice chairman of Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Noida.

As an IRTS officer, he has served in various capacities in Rajasthan and Gujarat, most notably in Container Corporation of India and as Traffic Planning Manager (CTPM), Headquarters, North Western Railway. 

He set up a number of multimodal logistics terminals in Rajasthan and Haryana. He was associated with the launch of the first double stack container train in Asia in 2006.

Singh has also served as faculty member at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie for over 5 years where he was faculty in-charge of History and Politics and took sessions in Public Administration and Management. 

He was also the Centre Director for Centre of Disaster Management.

Apart from Public Policy and Governance, his area of interest includes National Security and Geo- affairs. He served as Joint at the National Security Council Secretariat under the Prime Minister's Office where he handled matters pertaining to Internal and External Security besides management of the apex of the national security architecture.

Singh is husband of Roli Singh, who is a 1994-batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre. Currently she is on central deputation serving as additional secretary in the department of health and family welfare.
