Rajasthan Roadways chief Shubhra Singh finds road to reform

Shubhra Singh, a 1989 batch officer, who is serving as chairperson of Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is getting tough on passengers travelling without ticket. 

She said that the corporation will impose a fine of amount 10 times the actual fare or Rs 2,000 whichever is less, on passengers traveling without ticket. 

“This will improve the inspection system of buses and help in plugging the revenue losses,” she said. 

Singh said that earlier penalty was not imposed on passengers caught travelling without tickets.

“Now the flying teams have been fixed a target of recovering Rs 36,000 a month from passengers travelling without tickets. Earlier, vigilance officers had target of catching per month at least three passengers traveling without ticket,” she said.

Singh said that the corporation will take strict action against conductors, drivers and other officials of a depot if the vigilance team catches passengers travelling without ticket on more than occasions from that depot,” she said. 

Over last couple of months, the daily earning of Roadways has gone up by 25% with increase in passenger load by upto 138%.

“Results are showing up due to tight monitoring. Both chairperson Shubhra Singh and managing Purushottam Sharma have joined together in the corporation a couple of months back. They are working to increase the revenue of this cash strapped corporation,” said a senior official of RSRTC. 

The official said that the daily average earning which was Rs 4.2 crore has gone up to Rs 5.35 crore in November. On December 2, the daily earning has touched a new record earning of Rs 7.59 crore.
