The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has officially named Satish Kumar as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Indian Railway Board.
This makes him the first chairman and CEO from the Scheduled Castes in the board's history, senior officials of the Railway Board said. He is currently posted as Member of Traction Rolling Stock.
Satish Kumar's tenure will begin on September 1, 2024. His term will extend until his retirement, with the option of re-employment on a contract basis from January 1, 2025, to August 31, 2025, or until further notice. This information comes from a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Satish Kumar will succeed Jaya Verma Sinha, who is transitioning to a role as an administrative member of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT). Sinha will retire from the Railway Board on August 31 and will assume her new position at CAT immediately thereafter.
Sinha made history as the first woman to lead the Railway Board when she assumed the chairmanship on September 1 of the previous year.
