Rains have caused massive damages to Rajasthan Secretariat, which house offices of powerful bureaucrats and ministers.
While there have been reports of leakages and seepages on walls and roofs of main secretariat buildings, the underground parking is in dilapidated conditions. Water is pouring out from the roofs of this three-tier parking damaging the pillars of the structure.
“Due to continuous flow of water, there is massive seepage and now water is pouring out from the roof. There is also accumulation of water on every floor. We have given support to pillars on every floor through bamboo structures,” said a parking staff.
The parking, which was constructed in the year 2006, is being maintained by Public Works Department (PWD). There have been pool of water in several places in the underground parking making situation worse. The parking area needs complete renovation to make it more safer.
“Some part of parking is beneath the huge garden in front of Rajasthan Secretariat building. There is no proper drainage system through which water from the garden can be drained out. When it rains, water accumulates and causes seepage in the underground parking. Cars in the parking are not safe,” the staff said.
Risk of collapse in parking
The parking is running with high risk of mishaps. Water is accumulated near the electric room also increasing the risk of mishap. The pillars, which are supporting the parking structure, are oozing with water and getting weakened. These pillars are being supported by temporary bamboo structures. The parking staff has made the risky areas as No Parking Zone.
“Decision makers sit in this building. They make policies and give directions for good governance. They must take cognisance of the worsening condition of parking under their nose. The parking needs a closer look for safer tomorrow,” said another staff.
