IPS Manish Agrawal, who was suspended on charges on charges of bribery when he was posted as superintendent of police Dausa on February 2, 2021, has been reinstated.
The recommendations of reinstatement was given by a review committee headed by chief secretary Sudhansh Pant.
The reinstatement has happened three months after the central government had given prosecution sanction for Manish Agarwal.
”It looks little strange that Manish Agarwal who has chequered past and had been accused in many corruption cases got reinstated in a government which claims zero tolerance on corruption,” said a senior IPS officer.
Manish Agrawal, a 2010-batch IPS officer was arrested on February 2021 on charges of taking bribe from a company engaged in construction of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The anti corruption bureau (ACB) had arrested him after investigating middleman Neeraj Meena who was negotiating the bribery amount on his behalf.
Apart from that, there have been several charges of corruption on Manish Agarwal including monthly instalments from police stations controlled by him. He has also been accused of seeking bribe of Rs 25 lakh for settling a rape case.
Manish Agarwal transferred to Rajasthan cadre on basis of marriage
Manish Agarwal was allotted Jammu & Kashmir cadre initially. But he was transferred to Rajasthan cadre in March 2014on basis of his marriage with Mamta Gupta, a 2012-batch IPS from Rajasthan cadre. However, the marriage didn't work for long and both got divorced.
During his service in Jammu & Kashmir also, Manish Agarwal was under scrutiny of vigilance department, which had charged him of seeking bribe from accused in a murder case. The case however, could not be pursued as the government did not give prosecution approval.
