Bhajan Lal Sharma to stop at red light, asks to scrap traffic protocol

Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma takes a bold step to scrap traffic protocol to end traffic jams emanating due to his travelling

Rajasthan chief Bhajan Lal Sharma doesn't want any inconvenience to general public during his travelling on road. He has asked director general of police Utkal Ranjan Sahoo to develop a system wherein he can travel on roads without any traffic halts.

DGP Sahoo said that the chief minister is disturbed with the fact that the traffic gets disrupted due to his movement. He had come to know about ambulances getting stuck due to the traffic protocol. He wants to move like a general public.

“The responsibility of security of CM Bhajan Lal Sharma is ours. We can't compromise on that. We are discussing this with subject experts and senior officials about the mechanism to be followed, which should not disturb the traffic and at the same time security is also not breached. When CM wants this system to be in, it will be in place,” said DGP UR Sahoo.

Sahoo has also told Jaipur police about chief minister's wish to travel like general public and follow all traffic rules while travelling, even stopping at red lights.

The frequency of VIP movement in Rajasthan has increased ever since Bhajan Lal Sharma has taken over. The main JLN road connecting airport always witnesses traffic jams with vehicles stuck for hours due to the VIP moving to and fro from airport. The plight of public forced chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to give up the traffic protocol and travel like a general public.

Former CM Vasundhara Raje had also followed this austerity measure

Soon after being elected as the chief minsiter for the second time in 2013, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje had directed to cut down her security and scrap the traffic protocol. She would stop at red light and there would not be any traffic halts during her movement. Many other including Arvind Kejriwal, who probably started this austerity system, follow the ‘no traffic protocol' mechanism in the country
