Amid rising cases of student-suicide in coaching hub Kota, the district collector Ravindra Goswami launched a unique initiative – Dinner with Collector – in the city.
In this initiative Goswami will visit one hostel or paying guest accommodation every Friday to interact with students. He will also have dinner with them along with pep up words.
This initiative is aimed at reducing mental stress of students and make outstation students feel at home.
On Republic Day, the 2016-batch IAS officer Ravindra Goswami visited a hostel where he sang, interacted with students and had dinner with them. Students felt elated finding district collector among them.
He sang famous song of Kishore Kumar – Aa chal ke tujhe Mai le ke chalun ek aise gagan ke tale…., which was apt for the situation and audience.
Later he shared his experience of life and gave important tips for success. He said that he had visited Kota as a student in a coaching institute but left in between and then became doctor before becoming an IAS officer with self study.
He advised students to have a back up plan ready.
“Career is not the destination. It's a road to success. You will face lots of problems and difficulties while trudging this path. But you should never give up. If you fail in any examination, please don't judge yourself. If you are deserving just keep up the hard work,” he said.
Goswami said that difficulties make people strong. A medico by education, Goswami has an art of counselling and he used it to the hilt among students.
“One should never run away from problems and difficulties. Face it. Move ahead. You will be successful in life,” he said.
Ravindra Goswami suggested students to live like a family in hostel helping each other to cope up with the new environment.
“Try to inculcate habit of adaptation. Certain things are not suitable but don't try to run away, adapt yourself to new conductions,” he said.
Kota becoming suicide capital
In last one year around 30 students committed suicides falling prey to mental stress and depression. The state government has taken several initiatives to stem the rising suicide cases. It has brought in rules to regulate the ₹ 1000 crore coaching industry.
Among these initiatives, the coaching institutes have been asked to give stress free environment to students. The district administration is sensitive and quite serious about regulating the coaching industry.
