Ankit Jain, a 2017 batch officer of Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) has been appointed as private secretary to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.
Jain has been sent on central deputation for three years. He wa serving as deputy superintendent of police Kota city from where Om Birla is member of parliament.
This is the second appointment in a week's time from Kota in the personal staff of Om Birla. On December 27, Rajesh Daga, an RAS officer serving as deputy secretary in women and child development department in Kota, was appointed as additional private secretary to Om Birla.
Who is Ankit Jain?
A native of Jaipur, Ankit Jain's father Nirmal Kumar Jain had worked with state election commission. His wife Nidhi Kothari is an officer In Rajasthan Tehsildar service.
An engineering graduate and post graduate in humanities, Ankit Jain is considered an efficient officer. He hit the headlines for saving a youth from self immolation during Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
In his six years of service he had been posted twice in Kota as DSP. In his first term, he served in the city from January 2021 to October 2022. Then he was transferred to Keshoraipatan in Bundi district till May 2023 when he was again moved to Kota.
Ankit Jain saved youth from self immolation
Jain rose to fame when he saved a youth from self immolation during the Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.
When the yatra was passing through anant pura area of Kota city, a youth in front of statue of Rajeev Gandhi set himself on fire. When clothes of the youth caught fire, Ankit Jain, who was on duty, removed his uniform and doused the fire by it. By this saving act, he won praises from all quarters.
Sprinted to catch molester during Mela
Jain won praises several times doing his posting in Kota. Ina n incident widely reported in media, he sprinted 50 odd metres to catch an offender who was trying to eve-tease a girl during Dussehra mela in Kota. He set an example for others.
Feeds cows daily
Jain is also known to be animal lover. He has persuaded hotels and restaurants to collect left over food and give it to Jain, who would feed stray cows and other animals.
