In a late night reshuffle, Uttar Pradesh government has transferred nine IAS officers changing responsibilities of several key departments, including the sugarcane department, food and logistics, cooperative societies, panchayati raj and irrigation departments.
The most notable name under this reshuffle is Prabhu N. Singh's, who has been kept waiting. Prabhu N. Singh was working as sugarcane commissioner till now. In his place, Pramod Kumar Upadhyay has been appointed as the new sugarcane and sugar commissioner.

According to sources, the main objective of these transfers is to make the governance more efficient and accelerate the pace of public interest schemes. This decision has been taken in view of the pace of work in many departments. The leadership change in the sugarcane department is being considered significant in view of the problems of sugarcane farmers.
Pramod Kumar Upadhyay is considered to be a veteran in this field and the government is expecting him to strike a balance between sugar mills and farmers. The appointment of Bhupendra Chaudhary in the food and logistics department is being seen as a reform in the PDS system, while B. Chandrakala's additional charge of the women's welfare department shows government's faith in her.
