The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) appointed Khilli Ram Meena, a 1993-batch AGMUT cadre, as the new chief secretary of Mizoram. He succeeds Renu Sharma (1988-batch AGMUT) who retired on Oct 31.
Meena is a native of Nithar village of Bhusawar tehsil in Bharatpur district. He was born on Dec 4, 1967 and completed his Master's degree in history before joining the IAS in 1993.
At present, Meena is working as additional secretary in the ministry of minority affairs. H Lalengmawi, a 2005-batch IAS officer, will continue to function as the chief secretary before Meena assumes charge.
Mizoram govt had requested the Centre to name Vumlunmang Vualnam, a Manipur-cadre IAS officer of 1992-batch as the chief secretary to replace Sharma, which was declined by MHA. Vumlunmang is now secretary to ministry of civil aviation.
Official sources said he is likely to soon take charge as the chief secretary.
